We at Small Batch Kitchen feel strongly that food brings people together and that recipes tell stories. We were hoping to have a few in-person gatherings during 2020 - to share a table with others in our town and talk about the stories behind the food we were sharing together.
Even though we are not able to gather together around a table quite yet, we still want to share stories around our community food traditions this year. We are going to start our Food & Stories program virtually, but hope to transition back into in-person gatherings as the year progresses.
How it works.
We want to hear from members of our community. There are so many food traditions in our town that can be shared with others. Whether you emigrated from another country and have a favorite recipe from home, or if you moved from another state in the USA with a signature sandwich, or if you have a very personal memory or holiday tradition that involves a particular dish - we want to learn the recipes and hear the stories that are important to you.
If your recipe and story is selected - we will feature your dish on our menu in some way - either a heat at home meal, a soup or sandwich of the day, or other special. We will share your story on our website, social media pages, and in our store. If you are open to it - we might do a live video or other virtual meeting to allow for a broader community discussion about the meal and story behind it.
We are hoping this project will help us all learn more about the people who live and work in our town - and discover new flavors and recipes that can spark joy, conversation, and connection.
Please click the button to fill out a short questionnaire to submit your recipe and story to our project. We will keep submissions open for the year.
