Small Batch Kitchen was founded by Sheila Rhodes in 2014.

After my husband Jason, and I moved to Harleysville in 2009, we jumped into turning our semi-suburban acre into a self-sufficient homestead. After planting a large vegetable garden, I wanted to see if I could "put up" enough food to last the winter.

​

I canned salsa, tomatoes, pickles, and jams and was happy with the way the majority of the recipes turned out, but I was disappointed in the flavor of the jams. They seemed overly sweet - with sugar masking the flavor of the fresh, sweet produce I used during the height of the summer.

 

After spending a lot of time trying to find recipes that kept peaches tasting nice and peachy, I started developing my own recipes. Playing with the flavors of my low-sugar fruit spreads the way I did while cooking dinner every night, I started creating recipes that mixed fruits, spices, and herbs while keeping that fresh taste months later.

Once our pantry filled up, I started giving spreads to friends and family, who encouraged me to start selling my products at local farmer's markets.

Small Batch Kitchen has grown a lot since 2014. We’ve added a line of infused sea salts, fermented hot sauces, krauts, and pickles. We also have a storefront on Main Street in Lansdale, PA where we sell our products, including a line of soups and heat at home meals.

One thing has remained constant, however, and that is our commitment to creating high quality food from local ingredients.

Small Batch Kitchen: Local Food & Gifts now houses all of Small Batch Kitchen’s activities. Our production kitchen cooks up all of our low-sugar spreads and heat-at-home meals. Our market features the full line of Small Batch Kitchen products including our house made spreads, infused sea salts, hot sauces. We also carry items from local farmers like glass bottle milk, pasture raised eggs, and meat. We support other local producers and carry locally made hot sauces, nut butters, maple syrup, honey, pasta, sauces, salsas, and more! And lastly we carry a wide selection of beautiful gift options, home goods, and sustainable living items.
